| Partnerships
The Department of Information Technology (DIT) is a strong believer in developing strategic
business partnerships with vendors, other state and federal agencies, and local colleges and
universities.

Internship
|
|
|
The city utilizes local colleges and universities for provide technical talent
for the Information Technology internships. DIT utilizes interns to develop web pages, applications,
and provide technology support services for City agencies. College students are encouraged to
apply for internships in order to develop valuable work experience that can be leveraged to obtain
full time technology positions upon graduation. DIT has successfully transitioned several interns
into full time positions upon matriculation.
Interns working for the city are challenged to achieve their full potential
according to the skills they have learned at school and on the job. Typically,
interns are provided with opportunities to learn and apply technologies including:
- Desktop computer maintenance and support
- Computer networking and configuration management
- Programming in .net, HTML, CSS, and databases including: Oracle; SQL; and DB2.
- Systems Analysis and development methods for gathering and developing state of the art applications and user interfaces
- Graphics Design for web applications and print materials
- Many other exciting skill sets required to support the City’s technology needs.
DIT welcomes intern applications from all local colleges and universities.
Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is a valued partner that has done an excellent
job of providing candidates through their Co-op and Internships programs. Information
