Goals

DIT PMO wants to employ standard and repeatable processes for implementation practices for projects/programs/portfolios to be beneficial city wide by the following practices:
- Enhance the decision making capabilities of our Executive Leadership
- Deliver transparency into all project resources, risks, issues, and cost
- Identify the value in efficient and effective management of programs and projects
- Effectively utilize external resource to maximize productivity and efficiency
- Gain a thorough understanding of our entire IT portfolio and the resources allocated to all programs and projects, and increase our efficiency and effectiveness in all aspects of program and project management

The PMO must provide the following benefits for visibility,
prioritization, managing workload/resource, portfolio optimization and analysis/reporting.

forecasted on key dimensions such as scope, cost, schedules, benefits and risks/issues
- Identifies potential contract performance
issues impacting scope, cost or schedule

- Visibility into your entire portfolio is a must in order to effectively prioritize
- Central repository for portfolio managers will facilitate effective review and communication about portfolio status.
- Supports framework for effective portfolio analysis that will reveal areas for improvement such as investments that are low value, duplicate or unhealthy
- Allows for balancing the portfolio and checking key business objectives and distribution goals

Managing Workload/Resource
|
|
|
- Provides complete view of resource structure across the organization, enabling resource managers to anticipate demand and quickly allocate the right resources to complex, cross departmental projects
- Supports tracking resource demands for projects and day to day activities, ensuring high priority project activities and essential “keep the lights on” efforts are addressed
- Real-time visibility into programs and project capacity, utilization, costs, assignments, and forecast resource demands business priority projects
- Facilitates timely responsiveness to contract-related issues and effective contract management
