About Us
The Department of Information Technology (DIT) has proudly served the city of Richmond for over 35 years. We maintain a stable
infrastructure through an evolutionary, development life-cycle. This helps the citizen acquire more from their government.
The city of Richmond utilizes an innovative technology planning process that is business-driven and aligned with the city's
business initiatives, starting with the mayor and chief administrative officer and continuing down to the individual agencies.
In order to foster better partnerships and increase return on information technology investments, we have implemented a new approach
to creating our business technology plans.
Individual agencies
are interviewed to provide information about the current state of technology utilization, targeted improvements, and then a jointly
owned roadmap is created for transform the organization from their current condition to their targeted state.
The difference between whether an organization achieves its goals or fails to meet its goals lies in defining the
difference between technology leadership and management. This can be a difficult transformation, and may require
the IT group to assume the responsibility of coaching its customers through the
technology planning
process. It also requires clearly defined processes and measures so that we know exactly how we are performing.
