Communications Officer of the Month

CO Givens made quite the name for herself at DEC due to her outstanding work ethic. Givens has been employed with the division for 9 years, and during that time she has shown how great of an employee she is.

This is why she’s our CO of the Month: While she was on the police radio, one of the officers started following a stolen vehicle. Givens--quick on the radio--dispatched two additional units for backup and activated the Early Warning Notification, alerting the area that a pursuit was coming their way.

Later on in the pursuit, the stolen car crashed and the driver was apprehended. Now we all know how intense any situation can be in a pursuit – dispatchers included – and Givens was as calm, cool, and collected.

She stayed composed while under an incredible amount of pressure. The saying may be “Keep calm and carry on,” but in this case it was “Keep calm because Melanie’s on the radio!”

CO Givens is just the kind of person we need on our team, and I am sure that she will continue putting in the great effort that she does. Thank you and congratulations to our Communications Officer of the Month—Melanie Givens!
