The holiday seasons are upon us. Shoppers are already visiting their favorite department stores to make their purchases. For others, they will make purchases from their favorite online retailers this season. Your Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers program would like to remind you of some simple steps to stay safe during the holiday online shopping season.

  • Consider having packages delivered to the store or a place of employment.
  • Ask a family member or trusted neighbor to receive your packages.
  • Pick up packages at a local distribution center.
  • Request a signature delivery.

If you shop locally, remember the following things:

  • Stay alert and be aware of your surroundings.
  • Park in well-lighted areas and shop with a friend.
  • Avoid carrying large amounts of cash.
  • Avoid going to ATM’s late at night.
  • Never leave packages, gifts or valuables in plain view inside your vehicle.

And always report suspicious persons or activities to your local law enforcement.
