Officer of the Month

During the month of June, Officer Richard Salgado of Sector 412

  • Was instrumental in the arrest of four armed robbery suspects
  • Made several arrests for narcotics violations
  • Apprehended a suspect who provided information in several motor vehicle thefts in Sector 412

In his two years with the Department, Officer Salgado is proving to be a leader in his platoon and becoming very familiar with the areas and the individuals known for crime in Sector 412.

Also, because of his diligence and keen eye, Salgado was selected to become a Gang Specialist, a benefit to Fourth Precinct and the Department.

Salgado's keen eye contributed to several arrests last month. He observed a vehicle squealing tires in the 2800 block of Broad Street and initiated a traffic stop that resulted in an arrest for DUI and possession of a concealed weapon.

On June 12, Salgado spotted a suspicious vehicle occupied by four individuals in the 3200 block of Hanes Avenue. As he approached, all of the individuals ran. Salgado caught one of them. Based on this suspect's interview, several suspects were identified for a number of motor vehicle thefts in the area.

Salgado was instrumental in assisting with the apprehension of four suspects wanted for the armed robbery of an individual at the 7-Eleven on Belvidere. He provided information to the K-9 Team, which conducted a track to a vehicle leading to the arrest of the suspects.

A true community officer, Salgado logged nine hours of walking patrol, concentrating his efforts on areas affected by property crimes, and conducting nine merchant visits.

The June Officers of the Month for their respective precincts are: Officer Brenda Graham, First Precinct; Officer Juan Tejeda, Second Precinct; and Officer Benjamin Smith, Third Precinct.
