Sergeant of the Month

During the month of April, Fourth Precinct Sgt. Shane Barlow

  • Was extremely active dealing with crowds in the downtown area on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturday nights
  • Excelled as a leader in the Crowd Management Team and organized a joint training exercise with Chesterfield County Police
  • Successfully responded to a Home Invasion call

Fourth Precinct has an improved quality of life thanks to the efforts of Sgt. Shane Barlow.

Many calls for service in Sector 413 arise from the crowds that gather during nighttime hours in the area of Belvidere and Broad streets. Sgt. Barlow strives to keep close watch on the area and organize the response of additional officers when needed. Barlow now deploys units before the clubs and pubs close so that officers can more safely and effectively handle the crowds.

The CMT training exercises successfully focused on handling demonstrations, civil disturbances, arrests of riot subjects, officer down scenarios and effective use of O.C. foggers.

During a breaking and entering call this month Barlow successfully coordinated a team and resolved the incident with a good arrest. By efficient use of officers and members of the Department of Communications and with the use of a ballistic shield, Barlow and his team successfully handled the case and the arrest.

Barlow works tirelessly to make life better in Sector 413 and the city of Richmond. He has earned the award for April Sergeant of the Month.
