The Watch Commander represents the Chief of Police when he is not present. The Watch Commander, also known as the Night Supervisor, is the Operational Commander of the Department's personnel and facilities during nights, weekends, and holidays, and will notify the appropriate members of the Command Staff about incidents when appropriate.

The Watch Commander reports directly to the Assistant Chief of Police, and are on-duty seven days a week. The Watch Commander monitors police radio traffic and responds to and takes command of any unusual event, crime, or other critical situation.
