GENERAL INFORMATION

The State Board of Elections has ordered Democratic and Republican party primary elections to be held in the City of Richmond on Tuesday, June 11, 2019. Click here to view the general order. Click here to view the listing of where primary elections have been called. The purpose of these primary elections is to nominate candidates for offices that will be on the ballot in November. Information about how to participate in a primary election as a candidate or in the November general election as a non-party candidate can be found at www.elections.virginia.gov. The primary candidate filing deadline is March 28, 2019 at 5:00 PM. The filing deadline for non-party candidates is Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at 7:00 PM.

If one or more of these primary elections is held, the polls will be open from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, June 11, 2019. The deadline to register to vote in a primary election is Monday, May 20, 2019. The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot through the mail is Tuesday, June 4, 2019. The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot in person (with limited exceptions) is Saturday, June 8, 2019.

PHOTO ID REQUIREMENT

Photo ID is now required to vote at your polling place or in person absentee voting. Acceptable forms of photo ID include: valid Virginia Driver's license; DMV issued photo ID; valid United States passport; valid employee photo ID; other government issued photo ID; and, valid Virginia college or university student photo ID. If you do not have an acceptable form of photo ID, you may get a free one for voting purposes at any local Virginia voter registration office. ONLINE VOTER REGISTRATION

Voters who have a valid Virginia driver's license or other DMV ID can now register to vote or update their voter registration directly online at www.elections.virginia.gov. Paper applications are available online at www.elections.virginia.gov, at all City libraries and post offices, Virginia DMV offices and all Virginia Voter registration offices.
