The Healthy Families Program provides intensive home visiting services to prenatal and new parents who reside in the East District and in the Southside of Richmond. The primary goal of the program is to prevent child abuse and neglect by providing training and guidance to families to enhance parenting skills and competencies for getting their children off to a healthy start.

Program staff conduct weekly home visits with new families, assist them in getting connected with medical homes, ensure that parents get their children in for scheduled well baby visits and that they immunize their children as recommended, conduct routine developmental assessments on enrolled children and refer families to early intervention specialists and other community based resources as needed. Staff provide parents with information and assistance in selecting the most appropriate form of discipline for their children and assist them in developing skills that support positive parent-child interaction.

Participation in the program is voluntary and is available to participants until the enrolled child is three years of age. Please contact 804.646.4508 for more information on program services.
