Sustainability and Energy Efficiency Effort

This project funds two full-time positions, a Sustainability Director and an Energy Manager, for the duration of the EECBG program period, with support tools to implement the City’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy specifically as it relates to the eligible activities (EA) supported by the overall EECBG program. The Sustainability Director and Energy Manager will focus on:

  • Assessing/auditing energy needs, expenditures and appropriate rate structures for City facilities to identify efficiency opportunities and streamline utility,
  • Developing energy intensity reduction goals and forecasting energy usage for the City,
  • Implementing systems, programs and projects to reduce energy use, enhance operational efficiencies, realize energy savings, and Green House Gas emissions reductions,
  • • Leading the City’s climate and sustainability efforts, including internal coordination to achieve energy reduction and/or sustainability goals.

This activity includes EECBG funds that would be used to purchase/build, program and implement software tools and systems to support the Sustainability Director and Energy Manager and in creating and delivering education and awareness programs for City employees. Where possible, web-based energy program tools will also integrate with existing facility management and information technology systems to leverage automated functions, data gathering, metering and reporting. With implementation of these support tools, it is anticipated that no more than 10% of the Sustainability Director or Energy Manager’s time would be used to directly administer the EECBG program reporting and/or related requirements. This activity also includes EECBG funds that would be used to train the Sustainability Director, Energy Manager or appropriate city staff on the EECBG grant, software tools and related energy efficiency and sustainability best practices to effectively implement the EECBG grant.
