Mayor Doug Wilder’s Vision for RichmondWorks

Mayor Doug Wilder When I was elected Mayor of the City of Richmond, I pledged to usher in “Access, Action, and Accountability” as guiding principles for Richmond’s City government. In continuing with that pledge, City department directors, managers, and other employees are working closely with a team to develop and implement RichmondWorks, a Performance Management Program.

Through RichmondWorks, each department's performance data will be reported on a monthly basis, beginning in early September. This information will be displayed on this website so the public can see the results and follow the City's progress in enhancing its performance.

With measurable evidence, RichmondWorks will also guide policy development and the deployment of resources. This program will demand greater accountability – from each City department head all the way down the chain of command to the frontline service provider. By creating improved methods for citizens to observe how their tax dollars are being spent, RichmondWorks will clearly demonstrate our efforts to continuously improve the delivery of municipal services.

In other words: Access, Action, and Accountability

RichmondWorks Purpose
The purpose of RichmondWorks is to consistently ensure the best use of the City’s resources and time. Eventually, in the coming year, the performance measurements and outcomes will be available to the public via the City’s Website. While the collection and reporting of comprehensive performance data will require additional effort on the part of each agency, the process will discover ways to better allocate resources and improve services.

RichmondWorks will help create the City of the Future.
