Welcome to the website of the Office of the Richmond Commonwealth’s Attorney. This site is part of our office’s continuing effort to provide helpful information about the criminal justice system and to provide an overview of the services our office provides.

Many parts of our City have seen remarkable growth and prosperity. Yet, Richmond remains at a crossroads. We continue to see a cycle of young men, and more increasingly, young women, unable to escape the shackles of crime. We now know that certain factors such as poverty, health, education and family contribute to certain patterns of criminal behavior. Our office is committed to ending this tragic cycle through strategic and aggressive prosecution and crime prevention. By working closely with the Richmond Police Department, City agencies, neighboring jurisdictions and other state and federal partners we are targeting violent crime, illicit narcotics and gang activities that have laid siege to some of our City’s most beloved neighborhoods. Equally strong is our commitment to reaching and influencing our City’s youth to stay in school, strive for successful careers, and reject a life of crime. We strive to protect victims, improve the quality of life and do our part to ensure a fair and just judicial process.

For our efforts to be effective we must have the trust and support of our communities. We have expanded our community prosecution program, assigned attorneys from our office to each of the police sectors, and we will continue to have a presence at the many civic and community organizations throughout the City. Please join us in our efforts; for crime prevention is not solely the duty of the police and prosecutors, it requires the active participation of Richmond’s outstanding residents.
