Comprehensive Planning Division
The Comprehensive Planning Division provides a variety of functions related to
current and long range planning services, including:
| Urban Design |
|
Staff
facilitates the review of permits and applications to the Urban
Design Committee and serves as secretary to the Committee's monthly
meetings. In addition, staff provides design advice to agencies and the public
regarding to the review process and reviews all City construction projects.

| Environmental Permit Review |
|
Staff
coordinates and reviews all applications to the Virginia Department of
Environmental Quality within the City, that involve air pollution, water
pollution and solid waste discharge permits to ensure compliance with local
ordinances. Where applicable, staff may coordinate the citizen review process. |

| Demographic and Economic Data |
|
| Collects, analyzes and disseminates U.S.
Census data to the general public and other City agencies. |
|
| Long Range Planning |
|
| Develops specific long range plans for consideration by the City
Planning Commission and adoption by City Council. Includes updating and
making amendments to the City's
Master Plan, Downtown
Plan, Environmental Plan and various neighborhood plans and studies.
