Historic Preservation Division

Historic Preservation staff are well versed in all aspects of historic preservation in Richmond and are responsible for enforcing the City's Old and Historic District Ordinance as well as providing staff support to the Commission of Architectural Review.

Information on state and federal historic register programs, historic rehabilitation tax credits and other programs are available through the Virginia Department of Historic Resources.

The City of Richmond utilizes federal funds in many programs, making them subject to review under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. A list of properties currently undergoing Section 106 Review is available and is updated monthly. The process for Section 106 Review is outlined in detail in the Richmond Programmatic Agreement.

The hours of operation for the Historic Preservation Division are Monday through Friday, 8:00am until 5:00pm. For more information, call (804) 646-6335,
