Permits and Engineering Services

Permits and Engineering Services provides a wide range of services related to construction activities including: comprehensive review of all plans to insure compliance with various environmental regulations, performing inspections, and issuing Land Disturbing Activity permits and Work in Streets and Alleys permits (WISP).

If you are doing any construction within the City right-of-way or on City property and you are not sure if you need a permit, you can call this office at (804)646-6440.

Staff is responsible for reviewing and inspecting site plans to ensure compliance with Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) flood regulations, wetlands regulations, erosion and sedimentation control ordinances, the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act regulations; and issues related permits like the WISP permit, sewer connection applications, and administrative encroachment requests.
