Our mission is to plan, prepare for and mitigate emergencies; educate the public on preparedness; coordinate and support responses to and recovery from emergencies; collect and disseminate critical information; and seek and obtain funding and other aid in support of the overall preparedness of the City of Richmond.

Richmond Ready!

Richmond Ready is a concept the City adopted to ensure that the citizens, public safety officials and private partners in planning, are educated in preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation. The Richmond Public School system is partnering with the City in conducting four, 4 hour training sessions this calendar year. There are certain preparations that everyone should make to ensure that they and their loved ones are safe and self-sufficient until help can arrive or normal conditions resume:

  • Make a plan.

  • Build a disaster kit.

  • Tune to WRIR 97.3 FM during an emergency.

Download and read the City’s Citizens’ Emergency Preparedness Guide to learn more about what you should do to make sure you remain safe during a crisis.

During an actual emergency, tune your radio to 97.3 FM for official, up-to-the-minute information from the City of Richmond, or call 646-HELP to request critical services.

Survivor Day

The City of Richmond and the Richmond Public School system are committed to training staff, parents, students, and citizens of the City to better handle emergency situations. Survivor Day will empower families to prepare and respond when the need arises. The issuance of a survival kit following a 4 hour training session will give each household that edge of confidence! Our citizens must be Richmond Ready!

Special events like this will further establish a culture of preparedness and readiness in the Capital City. While the Office of Emergency Management will continue to offer Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training, not every one is a responder. The survivor training program more quickly prepares a greater number of citizens regarding basic emergency preparedness.
