Fire Safety House
The Fire Safety House is our tool for teaching fire safety to the public. The Fire Safety House
is taken to elementary schools on a regular basis, where children from Pre-K through 5th grade are
given lessons on kitchen safety, smoke detectors and Exit Drills In The Home (EDITH). Teachers are
provided a resource package of materials that reinforced these lessons to 2,300 school children in
2004. The Fire Safety House is also available for community organizations and special events.
The Fire Safety House can be transported to almost any location in the city. Staffed by members
of the Fire Prevention Division, this tool is used to instruct the public about many safety subjects
including:
- Kitchen Safety
- Poisons
- 911 Calls
- Smoke Detectors
- Carbon Monoxide
- Evacuation Planning
Because of the high demand for this program, requests for the Fire Safety House
must be submitted in writing to the Fire Marshal at 201 East Franklin St., Richmond,
VA 23219. Requests should include the date, time, location, and approximate number
of participants. Scheduling of the Fire Safety House is done on a "first come,
first served" basis. The Fire Safety House was provided through the generosity
of several organizations and individuals, including the Rotary Club of Richmond,
Guardian Fire Equipment and Friends In Residential Emergencies (F.I.R.E.).
