Training
The Office of Fire Training provided a wide variety of training activities for
the year 2004. Officers attended Response to Terrorism Seminar, hosted the Peer
Fitness Instructor course, provided civilian fire extinguisher training, and
conducted two Customer Fire Academies for twenty two of our citizens.
Participated in the Summer Youth Employment Program, providing employment for 22
young people ranging in ages 13 to 16. Provided 295 hours of State mandated
training on Adult Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation. In addition, 24 hours of
continuous training and information were provided through the Institutional
Network (Fire Channel 29), on a daily basis to all fire stations. During the
year 2004, twenty four recruits graduated from the Fire Training Academy. The 18
week training program is given to all newly hired recruits (rookie) firefighters
and includes not only firefighting methodology but also 4 weeks of EMS training.
All recruits receive State EMT certification before graduating.
