A message from the Director, John R. Pope Jr.
Welcome to Richmond, Virginia's Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities website. Serving you is our primary goal, because we want you to think of us as your number one source for leisure, entertainment, recreation and life enrichment opportunities.

Established in 1851, our department is one of the oldest in the country. We have more than 40 parks, 19 community centers, historic cemeteries, a golf driving range, a beautiful new cultural arts center, and so much more. At the heart of our park system, is nearly 450 acres of the James River Park System, a nationally known site for white-water rafting, canoeing, kayaking, rappelling, rock climbing and passive entertainment.

The City of Richmond is proud to offer a wide variety of programs for your enjoyment which include major concerts and conventions, ballet and dance, theatre and art, aquatics, martial arts, disc golf, exercise and team sports.

Take a look inside to find the programs and services that interest you. Then, bring your family and friends out to experience all of the fun and excitement that is available in the City of Richmond through the Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities.

Please email us any comments and suggestions on how we can improve the programs and services we provide.

Thank you for visiting our site and please let us know how we can assist you.

Sincerely,

John R. Pope Jr.,
Director
