Department completing 10 Year Master Plan
|
|
The City of Richmond Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities Department has spent the last few months embarking on a Master Plan process. This process involves a detailed assessment of the Richmond park system: its parks, programs, facilities, internal operations, and financial systems.
The Department is working with PROS Consulting, LLC to complete the Master Plan. PROS Consulting is a full-service management consulting and land planning firm that specializes in work with government agencies. The PROS team has worked on more than 600 projects in over 45 states and internationally in seven countries. BAM Architects, located in Richmond are assisting in the project.
The process so far has included a series of focus groups hosted by the Department in April. Additionally a series of staff focus groups were held in May. These focus groups served as a platform for the development of a statistically valid survey that will be mailed to thousands of Richmond households. ETC Institute, from Kansas City, will be managing the survey process. ETC Institute has worked with hundreds of communities in the development of needs assessment surveys. This tool will assist in the development of the Master Plan, ensuring that recommendations are made according to customer needs. The survey instrument is currently being designed.
In addition, other components of the plan have started, including parks, programs and facility assessments and a demographics and trend analysis. In July, two public meetings will be held on July 11 and 12 for all residents interested in participation in the Master Plan process. PROS will also be completing key leader/stakeholder meetings at that time as well.
