Rules Regarding Dogs in Parks
|

NO DOGS are allowed in Byrd Park, Maymont Park, or the Azalea Gardens in Bryan Park.
NO DOGS are allowed in park recreation areas, on athletic fields, in park areas equipped or designated at children's play lots, or in any area posted as No Dogs Allowed.
DOGS MUST BE ON A LEASH in any City of Richmond park, except in Barker Park, which is a dog park near the Carillon in Byrd Park.
Exceptions
Guide dogs, hearing dogs and service dogs as defined in Section 51.5-44 of the Code of Virginia, are exempt from these rules.
The Director of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities may issue special permits for taking a dog into a park. Requests for special permits must be made in writing and delivered three working days prior to the time for which the permit is requested. Dogs must have a license and be vaccinated to receive a special permit.
Fines
Fines of up to $250 can be issued by Animal Control officers or Police.
What to do when you see these rules being broken
