The City's Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities provides leisure time projects, programs and activities for the enjoyment of Richmond residents of all ages, from athletics and aquatics to activities for seniors and programs in art, dance and crafts.
Community Centers are located throughout the City and offer programs of interest for citizens of all ages, from the tiny pre-school aged participant to the senior citizen. Programs range from arts and crafts to sports and fitness opportunities. Many neighborhood groups, clubs and associations use our community centers for meeting space. Additionally, Adult Enrichment Classes are offered at many centers. The classes give adults an opportunity to acquire a new skill or talent for a very reasonable fee.
Our community centers are divided into three districts, North/East, South/Broad Rock and South/West.
During the school year, most centers are open from 1:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. weekdays. All centers are closed on Sundays and holidays. Program Guide
During the summer the centers are open 7:30 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Friday. 2009 Camp Publication

Volunteers Needed
Community centers always need volunteers to help with youth programs or to share their skills by teaching arts and crafts, music, dance, or other programs. If you would like to volunteer, call your local community center and ask to speak to the center supervisor.
Watch Channel 17 - We’re on the Air
Keep up with current announcements of programs, trips, classes and special events. Watch the cable channel and catch up on what you’re missing.
Inclement Weather/Holidays
Always call ahead, when possible, during the stormy fall and winter seasons, as many activities and events may be cancelled due to snow or ice. Also many classes will not meet on holidays or if centers and schools are closed due to weather conditions.
Summer Meals for Kids Program
All community centers provide FREE breakfast and lunch daily, Monday - Friday, during the summer, to youth through age 18. The department administers a federally-funded summer food service program which provides meals at centers and playgrounds, in addition to coordinating service to other agencies and organizations throughout the city.
Agencies or organizations interested in receiving additional information or participating in the Summer Meals for Kids Program should contact us at (804) 646-5713.
Community Center Advisory Council
The Advisory Council consists of neighborhood or area residents who offer advice and help with local community center programs and activities. Any person interested in participating on an Advisory Council should simply visit the nearest community center and offer to work with the Advisory Council.
