If you want to talk about numbers, First Precinct Officer Floyd Campbell’s stand out throughout the entire Department.
It’s for these reasons as well as his ways of better getting to know his community that Officer Campbell has been selected as the Department’s October Officer of the Month.
During the month of October, Campbell has served five warrants, made 15 misdemeanor and three felony arrests, issued 32 traffic summonses and completed 65 field interview reports. He also made three DUI arrests.
The numbers don't tell the entire story, however. After making an arrest for drug possession, Campbell used his excellent interviewing skills to discover the location of the seller of the drugs. Soon a search warrant was obtained, two wanted individuals were arrested and drugs were seized.
Campbell knows that good relationships with the community are important, but as he is assigned to midnight shift he has to get creative in his attempts to engage. He has volunteered his time with a Boy Scout troop, serving as an assistant scout master and merit badge counselor, he has reached out to the Police Explorer program through his lodge, and he and his wife baked 150 cookies for the United Way bake sale.
If there are problems in Campbell's sector he attacks them, hence the three DUI arrests, which have made the streets of Shockoe Bottom safer, and his use of the radar unit in his response to citizen's concerns about speeders. He wrote seven speeding tickets in an effort to control the problem.
Officer Floyd Campbell has been a fine example of a leader this month and is an outstanding choice for the Department's Officer of the Month for October. Congratulations!
