If Sector 213 Officer Derrick Longoria identifies or is made aware of a problem in his sector, you can guarantee he will do his best to resolve it.
For all of his efforts during the month of August, he has been voted the Department’s August Officer of the Month.
When Officer Longoria noticed an increase in the number of outstanding warrants that had not been served, he conducted three warrant sweeps and served nine warrants.
When he noticed an increase in street level drug distribution in his sector, he informed his fellow patrol officers. During a traffic stop, Longoria seized 50 grams of crack cocaine, 100 grams of heroin and eight grams of marijuana.
When he received information that several nightclubs were holding events without the proper permits and risking people’s safety, he contacted the City Building Inspector’s Office.
In addition to resolving issues in the community, Longoria recorded the following numbers on his regular patrols:
handled 106 radio calls
generated 76 self-initiated calls
assisted 53 units
compiled 13 felony and 16 misdemeanor arrests
seized one firearm
Despite a busy month, Longoria found time to volunteer for two Shop with a Cop events, which helped two youngsters start the school year off right.
