During the month of January, Officer Kelly Morley of Sector 313
• Arrested an offender during a traffic stop that led to Virginia EXILE prosecution,
• Seized two guns, crack cocaine and marijuana during several traffic stops,
• Made nine felony arrests and 15 misdemeanor arrests.
From saving a life to arresting a repeat offender Sector 313 Officer Kelly Morley went above and beyond in her duties in January.
An accidental shooting required Morley to use her emergency medical training to apply a tourniquet to a man’s gunshot wound. She and her partner made the tourniquet out of a biological suit from the trunk of their police vehicle. This stopped the bleeding substantially. Paramedics said if the tourniquet had not been applied, the man could have lost his life.
During a traffic stop, Morley saw cocaine in plain view inside the vehicle. The driver already was on probation for cocaine trafficking in excess of 400 grams. The repeat offender was prosecuted.
In another traffic stop, Morley discovered a gun hidden under the passenger seat. A subsequent search prompted by an alert from a Richmond Police K-9 produced a digital scale with cocaine from the glove compartment. This case is now a Virginia EXILE case and has been adopted by the ATF for prosecution.
Morley engages the citizens of Sector 313 as much as possible and often conducts field interviews, providing detailed information. Thanks to documentation of several of these interviews by Morley, the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office was able to prosecute a drug dealer with the maximum sentencing for a drug distribution charge.
