Department Sergeant of the Month -- October 2008
|
|
 |
During the month of October, Second Precinct Sgt. Harold Giles
• Was tapped to supervise the Crowd Management Team for the upcoming Presidential Inauguration in Washington, D.C.
• Attended several community meetings and events, including a walk-through in the Ampthill Heights neighborhood, and
• Worked several additional shifts to ensure there was adequate coverage while another sergeant was away at training.
Sgt. Harold Giles is a “street cop.” “He spends more time on the street than most sergeants,” said Lt. John Darnes. Giles usually respond to calls in order to monitor the actions of officers and their safety practices.
Giles tracks crime trends and makes sure officers are aware of significant events in the precinct’s patrol area and across the city. He also shares this information with community members when he represents the Department at civic meetings.
As a member of the Department’s Crowd Management Team, Giles is trained to handle any situation that may arise and is a calming force for the precinct and the Department. His professionalism – through his positive attitude and work ethic – is recognized inside and outside the Department.
