During the month of December, First Precinct Sgt. Warren Andorfer
• Assisted in Sector 112’s fourth quarter crime reduction for 2008,
• Took control of the weekend Shockoe Bottom operational plan and coordinated deployment of officers, and
• Volunteered to assist in the midnight shift sergeant’s rotation.
During the first two weeks of December, Sector 112 experienced a series of night robberies in the Shockoe Bottom and Blackwell areas. Sgt. Andorfer immediately took note of these issues and deployed officers in both areas on directed patrol to curb the problems.
As a result of these patrols, arrests were made and several cases were cleared, bringing resolution to a potentially difficult situation, especially during the holiday season.
Several times Andorfer has been commended by citizens and officers for his calm demeanor and professionalism. Particularly trying times he encounters are often during weekend deployment in Shockoe Bottom with crowd management and disorderly fights in the streets. Several citizens called the Department to commend the actions of police during these incidents, stating that they observed officers using “extreme restraint” when dealing with difficult and dangerous crowds, a direct reflection of Andorfer’s presence and leadership.
“At roll calls he emphasizes and identifies the problems, offers solutions, and follows up to ensure assignments are met,” said Sector 112 Lt. Emmett Williams in nominating Andorfer for Sergeant of the Month. “Andorfer showed exceptional leadership and skill in utilizing resources within Sector 112 to aid in its major fourth quarter crime reduction.”
