During the month of March, Fourth Precinct Sgt. Michael Talley
• Experienced continued success with his new alternative patrol targeting problem areas in sectors,
• Was “hero for a day” through the Virginia Heroes mentoring program and
• Proved he is not a “desk sergeant,” with 14 felony arrests, two misdemeanor arrests, 21 field interviews and 112 calls for service.
Fourth Precinct Sgt. Michael A.D. Talley has done it again.
The continuing success of his Sector Blitzes, his active work on patrols, responses to calls and work representing the Department in the community have made Talley the Department’s Sergeant of the Month for the second month in a row.
The Sector Blitzes, implemented by Talley at the beginning of the year continued to yield high numbers last month, with 14 felony arrests, seven misdemeanor arrests, seven summonses and 31 field interviews.
The blitzes are a team concept where a sector officer is selected as team leader and allowed to plan and lead a 30-minute alternative patrol in a problem area in the sector, with emphasis on suspicious persons and activities.
Talley likes to focus on morale and teambuilding in the precinct and in the community. He created “The Dog Bone Award” to give officers immediate recognition when they are “caught doing something right.”
Talley also was “hero for a day” March 31 with the Virginia Heroes mentoring program. He taught several groups of middle school students about his “7 Things to Live By” program, which teaches young people about positive life skill choices and soon will be published as a book.
