5/17/2006 12:14:33 PM
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Who: Richmond Mayor L. Douglas Wilder; Bob Sledd, board chairman of Homeward; Brand Meyer, president of Wachovia Securities Financial Services Group; other officials, community advocates and supporters

What: Citizens can help women, children and entire families -- as well as individuals -- begin the gainful transition from the streets to adequate housing when they participate in and contribute to the canalWalk event, Saturday, May 20, on Brown's Island

The public can register for the 3K walk and the 5K run that begins at 10 a.m., Saturday, and later, attend a free outdoor concert featuring The Radiators, the eclectic rock n' roll band from New Orleans.

When: Thursday, May 18, 10:30 a.m.

Where: Fountain Circle at Brown's Island, 7th and Tredegar streets

Background: canalWALK, sponsored by Wachovia Securities, raises awareness and funds to support Homeward and other local agencies dedicated to preventing and ending homelessness in the greater Richmond area. With broad public support, the event hopes to raise at least $150,000 toward that mission.
