Defined Benefits Defined Contribution 401(a) Plan

Plans

Employed full-time and permanent Police Officers and Firefighters of the City of Richmond who are not members of the Virginia Retirement System or the Judicial Retirement System, are eligible for membership in the Richmond Retirement System. Membership ceases upon termination of City employment for those with less than five years of creditable service. Employees are considered vested upon completion of five years of creditable service.

Vested public safety employees are eligible for monthly benefit payments if they are members of the Defined Benefit Plan or those who enrolled in the Enhanced Defined Benefit Plan option.  In addition, they may apply for a deferred retirement benefit upon reaching eligibility age 50. Normal retirement age for unreduced benefits is at age 60.
