Major HR Projects in the first six months:

  • Lead role in strategic planning effort

  • Rolled out National Incident Management Systems training to all RCSO employees, in collaboration with the Richmond Fire Department

  • Lead role in Emergency Management in collaboration with the City of Richmond Emergency Management Office

  • Developed Customer Service Module

  • Developed Educational Leave Policy

  • Modified Dress Code

Payroll maintains all Payroll/Personnel records on all employees; processing hours worked and leave accounting while ensuring that all personnel of RCSO are paid accurately and on time.  This office is staffed by one Supervisor, four Payroll Coordinators, and one Part-time Payroll Clerk who successfully processed 106 new hires and terminated employees, while ensuring that all were paid accurately and on time.

Employee Recruitment is responsible to the Sheriff to reduce selection time and costs while improving the quality of information necessary to make accurate hiring decisions. This is done through screening of applications, background investigations, polygraph exams and administrative reviews.  In 2006, the Employee Recruitment Division was restructured to integrate its services with other HR divisions such as, Human Resources/Personnel and Payroll.

Recruiting Numbers Climb

This year, recruitment efforts helped increase the number of applications received, the number of persons interviewed, the number of persons undergoing polygraph exams, the number of persons taking physicals and the number of persons hired.  To help combat the impact of a national nursing shortage, Sheriff Woody approved the use of Emergency Medical Technicians and Certified Health Aid to provide a broader base of skilled applicants.
