The Sheriff’s Communications Office ensures that citizens are provided accurate facts about the Richmond City Sheriff’s Office, so the public can draw well-informed conclusions about the Office and its level of service and commitment to the safety and welfare of the community. We rely on the members of the media to help the Office tell citizens how important their involvement is in the Sheriff’s efforts to improve the Richmond City Sheriff’s Office and conditions at the Jail as we work to maintain a safe and secure operation.

After a February 2006 newsletter naming contest, the Office launched its first print and electronic newsletter, In the Spotlight: A Monthly Update for You. Filled with employee highlights and updates, the communiqué goes out to all RCSO employees, several City departments, and members of the community.

In the first project of its kind, the Jail partnered early in the year with the Richmond Times Dispatch for an in-depth documentary featuring what it is like to live and work in the Richmond City Jail. Over a 10-month period, teams of reporters and photojournalists will spend countless hours in the Jail for a series scheduled to begin in November 2006.

In early summer, planning began for an overhauled and updated RCSO website that is scheduled to launch by 2007.

Additionally, the late summer release of Sheriff’s Woody’s First Six Months: A Report to the Community would be the first comprehensive Richmond Sheriff’s Office report made available to the public in recent years. The report, which highlights the top 10 RCSO accomplishments and other benchmarks, will be available in both electronic and printed copy.
