The Division of Fleet Maintenance assigned to the Division of Transportation maintains a number of vehicles designated for the transport of inmates. The Fleet Department maintains vehicles that transport a total of three inmates at a time, and seven specialized vans that can transport 12 to 14 inmates at a time. Each vehicle is equipped with emergency equipment, first aid kit, cell phones, local radio communication, and state wide communication equipment. All transportation vehicles are equipped with a safety glass barrier and cage, which prevents the inmate from making contact with the Deputy ensuring his or her safety. The Richmond City Sheriff’s Office used many different restraining devices to keep inmates restrained during all transports.
