Programs
Family Violence Prevention
This program is targeted to victims and perpetrators of domestic violence in order to reduce or eliminate violence and to hold violators accountable for their actions.
To be eligible for these services the parties must meet the State Code definition of family: persons who are married, separated or divorced; persons who have a child in common; persons who have lived together in the last year in an intimate relationship; or mother, father, siblings, step-parents or grandparents who reside together. Participants must be residents of the City of Richmond, or ordered by the Richmond Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
The program assists victims with safety plans, protective orders, and makes referrals for food, clothing, and emergency housing. It also makes referrals for anger control and domestic violence counseling and substance abuse treatment. In an effort to address the safety concerns of children who reside in households where domestic violence has occurred, the program employs certified child protective service workers who conduct investigations
and take the appropriate action to ensure the children's safety and well being.
To contact the Family Violence Prevention office, please call (804) 646-7183.
