Businesses

Nonprofit organizations, faith-based organizations, service industries, retail, small businesses and corporations are all susceptible to emergency situations. The Office of Emergency Management can assist businesses and organizations in the development of emergency preparedness and recovery plans.

  • Virginia Business and Emergency Survival Toolkit - This tool helps you prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters. It explains types of emergencies and the problems they pose; gives you information on how to prepare for them and how to recover from them; and helps you put it all together in an emergency preparedness plan.

  • Emergency Operations Planning Guidance for Facilities - This template is provided in an effort to aid facilities in the development of their emergency operations plans. It also serves as the compliance review document pursuant to House Bill 2726 of Virginia, which grants authority to localities to require the review of, and suggest amendments to, the emergency plans of nursing homes, assisted living facilities, adult day care centers, child day care centers, and any other residential care facilities that are located within the cities jurisdiction.

  • Continuity Planning – In the private sector, Continuity of Operations (COOP) Planning is referred to as Business Continuity Planning or BCP but the theory is the same, maintaining your essential business functions. The City of Richmond Office of Emergency Management COOP Resources can be used as a starting point for the development of your business's Continuity Plan. The Business Impact Analysis tool will help you assess the loss of a function and the related impact. The COOP Worksheets help gather the raw data needed to develop a plan. They may modify them to fit the needs of your organization. The Department Plan Template captures critical operational data that supports your organization during COOP plan implementation. In conjunction with the information gathered by the worksheets, the template assists in completing a cohesive and comprehensive COOP plan specific to your organization's mission and needs.

  • Plan to Stay in Business - Account for all hazards (both man-made and natural disasters). Plan in advance to manage any emergency situation. Assess the situation, use common sense and available resources to take care of yourself, your co-workers and your business's recovery.

  • Request a Presentation – If you would like the Office of Emergency Management to make a presentation about business continuity or emergency preparedness to your organization please call our office at (804)646-2504 for more information.
