There are two versions of the Admissions, Lodging & Meals Tax coupon available for your use. The NON-INTERACTIVE form can be printed and completed manually. The INTERACTIVE form will enable you to enter information on the form and have the tax amount calculated for you. The instructions for use of the INTERACTIVE form are as follows:

After entering the taxable amount and pressing the tab key, this coupon will automatically calculate the tax due. Additionally, if you enter penalty and interest amounts, it will also compute the grand total due.

Please be sure to complete all of the information regarding the tax(es) you are remitting and your business entity, including:
  • the year
  • account number (business license account #)
  • business location, if other than your mailing address
  • the total revenue on which the tax is computed
  • the tax being remitted
  • if applicable, calculate the penalty and interest and included it on the form and also include it in your remittance
  • tax total
  • your business name and mailing address
Additionally, be sure to sign and date the coupon before placing it in the mail with your remittance made payable to the City of Richmond.

Admissions, Lodging & Meals Taxes are collected by the business entity on behalf of the City of Richmond from those patronizing the establishment and are considered to be held in escrow for the City of Richmond until they are remitted on the 20th of the month following the month in which they are collected.

A brief statement regarding each tax is indicated below. Details may be found in the City Code Sections referenced below or by contacting the Revenue Administration Division of the Department of Finance at (804) 646-5690.

Admissions Tax (Chapter 98, Article VII, Richmond City Code)
Any person receiving payment for taxable admissions (including complimentary admissions) must collect the tax from the person paying admission or attending the event. The Admissions Tax rate is 7% of the amount of total admissions, including the value of complimentary admissions.

Transient Lodging Tax (Chapter 98, Article VIII, Richmond City Code)
Any person receiving taxable transient lodging charges for any hotel, motel or other lodging place containing 10 or more bedrooms must collect the tax from the transient person. The Lodging Tax rate is 8% of the amount of the transient room rent.

Meals Tax(Chapter 98, Article VI, Richmond City Code)
Any person selling meals, including alcoholic beverages, all edible refreshments and nourishment, liquid or otherwise, shall collect the tax from the person paying for such meal. The Meals Tax rate is 6% of the cost of the meal, including alcoholic beverages and non-optional gratuities.
