Application Acceptance Policy
- Applications are accepted for vacant positions only.
- A separate application must be completed for each position for which you apply because applications are filed by job title.
- Applications are accepted via the City online application system 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and MUST be received prior to the closing date indicated for each position.
- The references of applicants may be checked. Reference checks are either by written inquiry or telephone conversations. References become a part of the applicant's application file.
Submitting an Application

The City’s new online application process provides you with an automated response once your application has been successfully submitted. This system also allows you to track your progress through the application process.

To begin the application process, search the open positions on the Website at http://agency.governmentjobs.com/richmond and click the title of the position for which you want to apply. You will see details about the position as well as links to "Print Job Information" and "Apply." When you click “Apply” you will be directed to log into the application system. Applicants who are new to the City’s electronic process will first need to establish a profile by following the directions by clicking on the link “Not Registered Yet? Create Your Account Here!”
- Returning Users
- Click Login, and enter your username and password
- This enables you to:
- Edit your existing application
- Apply to new jobs without re-entering your application information
- Review the status of positions you've applied to
