Second annual ‘It Starts in Parks’ Festival June 9 in Byrd Park
Richmond’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities will hold its second annual It Starts in Parks Festival in Byrd Park Saturday, June 9, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The festival is free and will feature a variety of fun activities and games for everyone, from young children to senior citizens, as well as live entertainment on two stages.

This free outdoor family festival will fill the park around Fountain Lake with healthy and fun activities ranging from athletic events to board games and art projects. Come try out the rock climbing wall, ride the trackless train, see the live turtles and snakes, meet the crime dog McGruff, get to know the mounted Police and their horses, run in a sack race, test your skills at golf, play lawn chess, bingo, horse shoes, Frisbee golf, badminton and other fun games, win prizes, visit with a host of health-conscious exhibitors, and enjoy the entertainment on two stages and a day in the park with your friends and family.

“The whole concept of It Starts in Parks is to get outdoors, get active and have some fun,” said J. R. Pope, Richmond’s director of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities. “The Department offers huge variety of ways to have fun with your family and friends, and this is a way to showcase them.”
