Department Officer of the Month -- April 2006

Officer Jason Norton -- Sector 412
Officer Jason Norton’s activities during the month of April are the latest demonstrations of the hard work and initiative that are regularly reflected in his work.
While assisting an officer with a call for a B&E, Officer Norton asked an individual for identification. That individual was John Singleton who had 12 pending B&E warrants in Richmond and also was wanted in Henrico County.
Officer Norton responded to a bank on Broad Street for a woman trying to cash a check on someone else’s account. The suspect had left the bank and was trying to flag down a ride. When she spotted Officer Norton she ran but was apprehended a block away.
She was charged with multiple felonies and is the subject of an investigation by the U.S. Postal Inspector.
On April 29th Officer Norton assisted with the arrest of three juveniles in a burglary at the old armory on West Leigh Street. Two firearms were confiscated. These individuals are also strong suspects in a string of armed robberies in Jackson Ward.
Officer Norton also engages the city’s youth in pro-active ways such as visiting the North Richmond Y.M.C.A. and Chandler Middle School.
For his outstanding work during the month of April, Officer Jason Norton was, once again, named the Department-wide Officer of the Month.
