Officer Chris Jernigan -- Sector 213
When there is a problem to solve in Sector 211, Officer Jernigan is often the first officer who comes to mind. He approaches each endeavor with a positive attitude and works to learn the most from each situation.
Officer Jernigan serves as the “Community Officer” for Sector 213 and acts as a liaison between community associations and the officers. He attends community meetings with the Sector Lieutenant and the Sector Commonwealth’s Attorney.
During June Officer Jernigan attended four community meetings, two of them on his days off. During these meetings Jernigan provided information and advice to participants. Jernigan also attended three Community Day Celebrations where he interacted with the kids and even participated in the sack race.
Officer Jernigan is certified on the Department’s off-road motorcycles and has made their correct use and care a priority. During June Jernigan logged an average of 30 hours per week on the motorcycle. When he discovered the Department was charged to tow motorcycles that broke down, he appropriated a city trailer that was not in use. Jernigan also constructed a ramp for use with the motorcycle shed. Jernigan conducted roll call training in June, sharing his knowledge of the laws concerning mo-peds and scooters.
Officer Jernigan is an energetic, industrious, and conscientious officer who has proven he to be a top performer.
It is for these reasons Officer Chris Jernigan is awarded the Department’s Officer of the Month Award.
