Department Officer of the Month -- May 2006

Officer Harry Fitzpatrick -- Sector 113
May 2006 marks the one year anniversary of the Officer of the Month program. The program has given the Department a chance to recognize the hard work of deserving officers, and for Chief Rodney D. Monroe to know his officers on a one-to-one basis.
The Department-wide Officer of the Month is Officer Harry Fitzpatrick of Sector 113. During the month of May Officer Fitzpatrick exemplified the spirit of community policing with his dedication to proactive, preventative police work. Officer Fitzpatrick spent a total of 51 hours on foot and on the motorbike. He shows a willingness to get into the community both mentally and physically.
While preparing for sector training, officers were asked to assess and report the main problems within their sector. Officer Fitzpatrick accomplished these requirements admirably and went a step beyond by proposing possible solutions. His assessment was so insightful it will be incorporated into the sector training that will take place in June.
Part of First Precinct’s Spring Cleanup Initiative was cracking down on trespass violators in public housing developments. Officer Fitzpatrick led the Precinct with a total of 24 Trespass arrests. Many of the arrests led to the seizure of narcotics and the arrests of individuals wanted for unrelated charges.
After making numerous trespass arrests, Officer Fitzpatrick discovered a major communication problem between the courts and the Department. He relayed this observation to the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office where a meeting was scheduled to resolve the issue of tracking individuals barred by judges.
For his exceptional work during the month of May, and his commitment to community policing, Officer Fitzpatrick has been named the Department-wide Officer of the Month
