Utility Bills/Questions/Payments
Automatic Payment Plan
(Water and Natural Gas)
The Automatic Utility Payment Plan enables DPU customers to pay monthly City
utility bills by allowing the Department of Public Utilities to automatically
deduct the amount from their checking or savings account on the date the bill
is due. To View The Automatic Utility Payment Bank Draft Authorization Form,
click here or call (804) 644-3000 for more information.
Customized Due Dates (Water and Natural Gas Service)
Customized due dates are offered to customers who prefer a unique due date
other than the normal cycle due date of the bill. For more information call
(804) 644-3000.
Equal Monthly Payment Plan (Gas Budget Plan)
The Equal Monthly Payment Plan for Gas Service is popular with residential gas
customers because the plan balances higher winter heating bills. Although 75%
of customers' total gas consumption is during the winter months, this budget
plan equally distributes the annual gas bill over a 12-month period. Budget
payment amounts are adjusted every year based on previous consumption. Changes
will be reflected on the June bill. To join or get more information, please
call (804) 644-3000.
Payment Arrangements (Water and Natural Gas)
Special payment arrangements can be tailored to exceptional needs if financial
circumstances make it difficult to pay a utility bill. Call (804) 644-3000 to
make arrangements.
Billing Questions (Water and Natural Gas)
DPU customer service representatives are available to answer questions from 8
a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at (804) 644-3000. Or, visit Room 115
in City Hall, 900 East Broad Street, to have a discussion in person.
Third Party Notification (Water and Natural Gas)
The Department of Public Utilities offers a voluntary third party notification
plan for elderly or infirm customers. Arrangements can be made for a designated
third party to receive a copy of each monthly bill. The third party is not held
responsible for payment. Call (804) 644-3000 for more information.
