Message from the Sheriff

With the dawning of this New Year, I begin my twelfth year in this esteemed Office. I am so thankful and grateful to the citizens of Richmond for their continued support and trust in me. Working alongside me are more than four hundred dedicated men and women who are simply the most outstanding public servants a leader could have by his side.

Together, we recommit our efforts to providing this community the safest jail and court systems in the state. We look forward to working with Mayor Stoney and his administration, as well as, the new members of City Council.

Our partnerships and collaborative efforts with city leaders, public safety partners and our colleagues and friends in law enforcement are strong. We are working with them to enhance mental health awareness and services, to better understand and assist with initiatives that help to stem the opioid epidemic and to provide solutions and treatment to the threat posed by heroin addiction. These initiatives are helping to shelter the homeless, reduce recidivism and provide focus to our ability to offer much needed reentry services.

We are investing in our personnel by ensuring that we provide opportunities to grow their expertise through training initiatives that support both professional and personal growth. This year our focus is on incorporating more technology and automation into the daily processes, and leveraging our ability to provide more on-the-job training to our employees.

The future is bright and we are excited about this opportunity to serve you the community. As always, we ask for your patience, support and prayers.

God bless each of you and let us keep our community safe!
