Mayor Dwight C. Jones was joined by Richmond Public Schools Superintendent Yvonne Brandon and Richmond City Health Director Dr. Donald Stern to kickoff the City's H1N1 inoculation campaign.
Following guidance from the Virginia Department of Health, the vaccine will be provided to identified priority groups and then to all persons who want vaccine protection. The Richmond City Health District will lead the distribution effort for the vaccine in the city of Richmond. Vaccination of school-age children is a priority as they are among identified at-risk groups for H1N1 virus infection.
The Richmond City Health District is working with Richmond Public Schools to provide FREE H1N1 vaccination to students. A completed vaccination permission form is required from parents or guardians of students to allow them to be vaccinated. The form should be returned to the student’s school the week of October 12. Vaccination will begin the week of October 19. Students under age 10 will require two doses of vaccine to be fully protected.
