Save on lighting with compact fluorescents (CFLs) or LEDs
Install a programmable thermostat
Control phantom loads (appliances and electronics that use energy when powered off but still plugged in)
Get rid of extra refrigerators or freezers
Purchase Energy Star rated appliances and products

Look for the WaterSense logo to use water saving devices like low-flow water fixtures
Update your toilet to a low flush toilet to save water

Please don’t litter! Most litter ends up in our streams, water ways and the James River
Use Storm Drain Markers to keep trash and waste out of storm drains and our local waterways
Join the Richmond Regional Pet Waste Campaign and keep pet waste out of our local waterways
Volunteer with the RVA Green Team Volunteer Network to help local events lower their environmental impact
Volunteer with RVA Clean Sweep to help clean up our community
Volunteer to clean up a local park through the James River Park System
Launch or join a neighborhood clean up
Keep our air clean by limiting idling when your vehicle is stopped for an extended period of time
Find designated smoking areas whether at work or out in the community to respect everyone’s air quality

Open Space and Land Use

Turn a parking space into a parklet and add a little bit of green space to the city
