Documentary Facts and Overview

In March 2007, the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Steering Committee’s Public Awareness Committee met to developed the City of Richmond Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy. Due to their expertise and research, a grassroots public awareness strategy was determined as the most effective means for reaching key stakeholders in the community. The first phase of the campaign is a Teen Pregnancy Prevention Documentary which highlights the following:
- Everyone has a role in addressing the issue of adolescent sexual activity and its consequences.
- Citizens will be informed about the “ripple effect” – the correlation between teen pregnancy and other high-risk behaviors such as substance abuse, violence, domestic abuse, mental and physical health issues, cycle of poverty, etc.
- Teenage pregnancy is a youth issue, family issue, neighborhood issue and ultimately a City of Richmond issue for its future and current vitality.
- Making a positive impact on the reduction of teenage pregnancy means more youth will potentially develop into self-sufficient adults.
- If Richmond is to grow and prosper, we must invest in our youth by helping young adults make healthy choices.
- When we reduce teenage pregnancies we ultimately reduce poverty, crime, increase education outcomes, strengthen the workforce, and build stronger families.
- The goal of the film is to compel the audience to action and to resources.
