Carytown
You'll be surprised at the variety of shops, boutiques, restaurants and food stores in this nine-block shopping area that extends from the Boulevard to the RMA beltline just west of the Fan District. There are more than 250 stores and professional offices lining both sides of the one-way street, in shopping courts, alleys and along side streets. There are more than 25 places to eat, so you can stop for lunch or refreshments if you get tired. It's also the site of the Byrd Theatre, a national historic landmark that still operates as a movie and entertainment theater.

You may also want to visit the annual Carytown Watermelon Festival in August, when the merchants association sponsors a weekend street party with special activities. Parking is available along Cary Street, side streets or at free parking decks -- one at Crenshaw and Dooley and one at Sheppard and Colonial.

Shop hours vary. Most of the stores are open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Some stay open later depending on the season, and a few stores are also open on Sunday.

Chesterfield Towne Center
Located on Huguenot Road at 11500 Midlothian Turnpike, this mall is decorated with palm trees and skylights throughout. This southside mall has the ambiance of a tropical paradise, especially on a sunny day.

Fairfield Commons Mall
Located at Nine Mile Road and Laburnum Avenue, this mall is anchored by Peebles Department Store and CVS Pharmacy, the mall has a pleasant, airy look. Near the Richmond International Airport, the mall serves shoppers in eastern Henrico and Hanover, Charles City and New Kent counties. Wheelchairs, strollers, shopping bags and information are available at the Security/Information desk. A 24-hour information line, 222-4167, provides recorded information about mall stores and events such as community, school and cultural programs sponsored by the mall.

Gayton Crossing
Located at Gayton, Gaskins and Quioccasin Roads, this West End strip center is one of the largest in the metropolitan area. Anchored by Ukrop's grocery stores, the center's shopping mix includes home furnishings and entertainment, men's, women's and children's apparel and shoes, pet care, health and beauty products, gifts, restaurants and miscellaneous services. The Shops of Libbie and Grove "On the Avenues"
Located at Libbie and Grove Avenues, this charming shopping area in the West End might remind you of an exclusive boutique area in a small resort town. About 45 specialty shops and restaurants line both sides of the street in one- and two-story buildings and Victorian-style homes with awnings, friendly porches and sidewalk cafes. Shops begin on Libbie Avenue about two blocks of Grove Avenue and continue on Grove Avenue for a block or two on either side of the intersection.

Walk a block in any direction and you'll find a variety of specialty shops offering women's fashions, jewelry, baskets and plants, fabrics, antiques, home fashion accessories, gifts, country crafts and decorative items, art galleries, children's clothing, books and more. Local merchants own the shops, so you'll enjoy personalized service and attention.

Combine your shopping with lunch, or visit the avenues in the evening for a movie at the Westhampton Theatre and dinner at duJour or Peking. duJour has been voted one of Richmond's best neighborhood cafes specializing in fresh, innovative cuisine. Peking specializes in authentic Szechuan and Mandarin cuisine.

Regency Square Mall
Located at Parham and Quioccasin Roads, this mall is anchored by Hecht's, JCPenney and Sears. Newly renovated with an enhanced foodcourt and children's area, Regency Square lives up to its reputation for being one of the best places to shop in Richmond.

For shoppers' convenience, the mall offers "Regency Services" at the Concierge Desk. If you can't find something or you're not sure if the mall has it, the staff will use a computerized listing of merchandise and services available in all of the mall's stores to help you locate it. River Road Shopping Center
Located at 6200 River Road and Huguenot Road, where West Cary Street meets River Road and north of the Huguenot Bridge. If you're looking for designer fashions for women - this shopping center is just the place for you.

Located across Huguenot Road from the River Road Shopping Center, this upscale shopping area features women's retailers Chico's, Pendleton, Acorn, Talbots Kids and Talbots Women. Get a Map

Shockoe Slip and Shockoe Bottom
Located downtown, at Cary Street from 10th to 13th Streets, historic Shockoe Slip offers cobblestone streets, restaurants, hotels, boutiques, art galleries, antiques shops and clothing stores in a quaint three-block area of Cary Street known for its renovated tobacco buildings and warehouses. Shockoe Slip has also earned a reputation for having excellent restaurants and clubs with live music, comedy and dancing.

On street parking is limited, but there are several parking lots around the area within easy walking distance. Most of the stores open at 10 a.m. Monday through Saturday and stay open until 5 or 6 p.m. Some stay open later on Friday and Saturday nights, and a few stores are open on Sunday. Get a Map

The Shops at Willow Lawn
Located at 1601 Willow Lawn Drive at the intersection of Broad Street near Staples Mill Road, this enclosed shopping mall features Old Navy, Wet Seal, Tower Records and Kroger Grocery Store. Willow Lawn has over 60 stores. The Food Court and other restaurants include a dozen international eateries one of which is the Seattle favorite Starbucks Coffee. While you're there, take a few minutes to watch the Cinnabon employees make fresh cinnamon buns. For a lively bar or a great salad, visit Ruby Tuesday restaurant. You'll find Padow's Hams and Deli and Grey Wolf Grille. The newest restaurant, Graywolf Grill, spices things up with its Mongolian barbecue. There's also the Barksdale Theatre, a professional not-for-profit theater, offering diverse, contemporary and classic plays.

Southpark Mall
Located at 230 Southpark Circle off I-95, this beautiful shopping mall south of Richmond in Colonial Heights is anchored by Hecht's, Dillard's, JCPenney and Sears. The mall offers over 100 shops. The Southpark complex includes two large strip-shopping centers: Southpark Crossing and Southpark Square, plus ParkSouth, an office/service specialty center, and other outparcels that include JCPenney, Pier 1 Imports, music stores, restaurants, a travel agency and banks.

In the shopping vicinity are Sam's Club, Target and Circuit City and many great eating establishments including Applebees, The Jewish Mother, Fuddruckers, Lone Star Steakhouse and Red Lobster. Stony Point Fashion Park
Located at 9200 Stony Point Parkway, Stony Point Fashion Park's eclectic merchandise mix and intimate, park-like setting will be like nothing else in the area today.

Stony Point Shopping Center
Located at Forest Hills Avenue and Huguenot Road, this strip shoppping center is anchored by Ukrop's Grocery Store. The shopping center offers about 40 interesting shops including Alchemist, Bears 'N More, Belle Kuisine, Charley's, Good Foods Grocery, Just For Comfort Shoes, Kitchen Kuisine.

Sycamore Square Shopping Village
Located at Sycamore Square and Crowder Drives, this quaint shopping village in Chesterfield County off of Midlothian Turnpike will remind you of Williamsburg with its Colonial-style buildings and high-pitched cedar-shake roofs. There are numerous shops, specialty boutiques, art galleries, professional offices and a Ukrop's, all arranged in clusters to resemble a small town. Crab Louie's, a popular seafood restaurant, is also here, as well as the Italian Café and a family restaurant called Milepost 5.

Virginia Center Commons
Located at 10101 Brook Road, in Glen Allen on U.S. Highway 1 about a half-mile north of Interstate 295, Virginia Center Commons is anchored by JCPenney, Dillard's, Hecht's and Sears. An antique carousel, one of only 150 still operating in the world, has become a permanent attraction for shoppers to ride and enjoy. The 75-year-old carousel is near Sears, and rides are offered for a small fee during mall hours.

A 14 Screen Regal Movie Complex and plenty of eateries such as Ruby Tuesday, Chick-Fil-A, Applebees and Spaghetti Warehouse are located in the area, or on an out-parcel of the mall complex.

Williamsburg Pottery & Outlet Shopping Centers
There are many special places to shop and browse in Williamsburg for clothing, crafts, home accessories, furniture, gifts and the like. The discount outlets are especially popular.

Prime Outlets
Located at 5715-62A Richmond Road in Lightfoot, Virginia. You will find top designer and fine name-brand clothing and other products at 20 to 70 percent off the usual market price. The list of tenants is too long to list here but includes many well-known names.

Williamsburg Outlet Mall
Located at 6401 Richmond Road in Lightfoot, Virginia, you will find more than 60 factory outlet stores in Williamsburg's only enclosed mall. Shops here offer 20 to 70 percent off retail prices. A variety of food is also available.

Williamsburg Pottery Factory
Located at Route 60 West in Lightfoot, Virginia, The Pottery is a sprawling complex of 32 Quonset-style huts, outbuildings and warehouses with 8,000 parking places. It's not so much a factory as it is an international array of goods displayed along miles of shelves. You'll find pottery, but you'll also find fine crystal, plants, dried and silk flowers, baskets, microwave ovenware, folk art, woodwork, lamps, home accessories, glassware and more. People come here by the busload to shop 'til they drop. On the same grounds are the Pottery Factory Outlets with more than 20 outlet stores.
